His parents were Elmer Ackeret [note slight spelling difference of middle name] Jacob and Maude M. Beeley. He married Margaret (Peggy) Christensen on August 11, 1945 in Laredo, Texas. He died on April 6, 1976. ~ ~ ~ ~ His father, Elmer Ackeret Jacob, was also a student earlier at BYH and was one of the three students -- Elmer Jacob, Clarence Jacob, and Harvey Fletcher -- who staked out the giant block "Y" on Y Mountain in 1906.

Allan McClure "Mick" Johnson graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo in 1939 before the war, and graduated with a five-year engineering degree from BYU in 1956. He worked for General Electric from 1956-58, helping develop the first afterburners for jet engines. He then worked for Marquardt from 1958 until retirement. While there he did high pressure research that included development of artificial diamonds, development of a portable kidney dialysis machine, and did research on the problem of desalinization. His last work was with his son Allan Jr. at Allan M. Johnson & Associates doing environmental engineering. Allan was a member of the LDS church, and served in many callings, including with the Boy Scouts. She was born April 29, 1921 in Escalante, Utah to Thomas Arthur and Myra Spencer King. She graduated from Brigham Young University High School in the Class of 1939. Lasca's love of learning resulted in her receiving a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and then becoming a school teacher, teaching children for over 40 years in Utah and California. She married Leon Wadsworth Poulson on August 18, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their first home in Oakland, California, where they remained for 42 years, before moving to Orem in June of 2000. Her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ was validated in her unselfish service and love for everyone. She served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Relief Society President, Seminary Teacher and Temple Worker. She is survived by her husband Leon of Orem; her sister LuWana Edwards of Orem; two brothers, Joe (Kay) King of San Diego and Eugene (Lenadra) King of South Jordan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Burgess and by a brother, Lynn King. The family is grateful for the tender, loving compassion shown to Lasca, by her care giver and friend, Lila Zec. Virginia Jane Larsen Simmons died of natural causes on June 23, 2015 in Highland, Utah. She was born November 26, 1920 in Provo, Utah to Parley and Jane (Bee) Larsen. Virginia grew up in Provo where she attended Franklin, Maeser and Brigham Young elementary schools plus Brigham Young and Dixon Junior High as well as Provo and BY High School. Virginia graduated in the BYHS Class of 1939. She also went to BYU for two years. She had many friends from the different schools she attended, as well as those at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon where her family spent the summer months at “the cabin”. Virginia married Paul A. Simmons on January 5, 1942 in the Manti LDS Temple. With him, due to his military service and employment, she lived in California, Massachusetts, Ohio, Virginia as well as Clearfield and Bountiful, Utah but mostly in her beloved Provo. She unselfishly served many. She was a volunteer at Utah Valley hospital and served in many church assignments in the LDS Church. She loved children and she and her husband financially contributed to many missionaries. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, loved the Lord and recognized His many blessings in her life. Virginia is survived by her children, Sue (Darrell) McCombs, Ann (David) Creer, Paul (Barbara), Daniel (Trudy), Sylvia (Mark) Jarman and Stephen (Becky) plus 28 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. She was born in Ogden, Utah, October 2, 1920 to Thomas E. McKay and Fawn Brimhall McKay. She grew up in Huntsville, Utah and attended Weber High School in Ogden, later graduating from Brigham Young High School in 1939 after spending two years in Switzerland where her father was Mission President. While attending Brigham Young University, Barbara married Dr. Oliver R. Smith who was a Journalism Professor. Mrs. Smith worked for several businesses in the Provo area; Taylor Brothers Department Store, Rowley's, Melayne Printers, and two U.S. Government Census positions. Later she joined the staff at Utah Technical College (now UVSC), retiring in 1985 as Assistant Dean of Continuing Education. Mrs. Smith was well known among Provo City employees, having served five years on the Provo City Planning Commission and for seven years on the Board of Adjustments. With this background, she successfully ran for a seat on the Provo City Council in 1987, serving for four years. While her husband was active in the Air Force Reserve, she was active in the auxiliary. She was a member for many years of the Beta Sorosis Literary Club, BYU Women, the Republican Party and many PTA organizations while her children were attending school. She was preceded in death by her husband in December, 1990, and also by two sisters, Fawn McKay Brodie and Flora McKay Jensen Crawford, and a brother, Thomas Brimhall McKay. She is survived by eight children, 53 grandchildren, and 77 great-grandchildren. Barbara and Oliver had five daughters and three sons, Barbara Kay Smith [BYH Class of 1961] Rytting (J. Howard Rytting) of Lawrence, Kansas; Olivia Lea Smith [BYH Class of 1963] Baird (Charles A. Baird) of Lehi; Kenneth McKay Smith [BYH Class of 1965] (JoAnne King) of Mesa, Arizona; Ronald McKay Smith [BYH Class of 1967] (Colleen Johnson) of Orem; Rebecca Smith Snyder [BYH Class of 1970] (Richard L. Snyder) of Tillamook, Oregon; Deborah Smith Annis of Provo; Dorothy Smith Gillespie (John K. Gillespie) of Orem; and Richard McKay Smith (Cindy Naylor) of North Salt Lake. She is also survived by a sister, Louise McKay Card, Salt Lake City, and numerous nieces and nephews who were always considered part of the family. The family gives special thanks to granddaughter Joanna Snyder for providing tender, competent care to Grandma Smith during her final years. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 18 at the BYU Harman Conference Center in Provo. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Barney Rawlings came to Las Vegas in 1947 to sing -- launching a half-century career as a performer, emcee and executive director of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. It was something of a second life for Rawlings. As an Army Air Corps pilot, he had flown 35 combat missions in B-17 bombers over Europe, logged 282 hours in the air and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, three battle stars and six air medals. Rawlings, 86, died of melanoma Thursday at his St. George, Utah home. Rawlings, who retired from the Army Air Corps Reserve as a major general, was the convention bureau's assistant manager in the late 1950s when he was asked to show off the town to a Hollywood actor. Rawlings and Ronald Reagan bonded on that trip, and they became lifelong friends. Rawlings was born in Provo, Utah, on April 29, 1922. He came to Southern Nevada on Labor Day 1947 to sing for three nights at the Railroad Pass Casino for $150 -- a far better gig than he'd had at a Utah nightclub, where he earned $5 a night while attending the University of Utah as a law student. The casino crowd included Last Frontier Hotel show producer Hal Braudis, who auditioned Rawlings the next day. Two days later Braudis hired Rawlings, and he never looked back. As a local emcee who could also sing, Rawlings performed a record 3,128 consecutive shows at the old Thunderbird Hotel. Such roles ceased to exist in the modern mega-showroom era. In 1953 Rawlings added to his entertainment resume by becoming the sales and convention director at the Thunderbird. Four years later he was hired as assistant manager of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. He went to the Riviera in 1963 as vice president of sales and in 1968 became executive director of marketing for the Sands. At the same time, he served as national director of the Nevada Hotel Sales Management Association and vice chairman of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce's Aviation Committee. In 1969, Rawlings was appointed executive director of the visitors authority, earning $25,000 a year. Rawlings' wife of 49 years, Hazel, died in 1989 of cancer, and 18 years ago he married Christine Ann "Puff" Russell, who helped him with his production business. In addition to his wife he is survived by his brother, James W. Rawlings [BYH Class of 1947] of Connecticut; daughters, Darlene Richards of Las Vegas, Kathleen Danielson of Snowflake, Ariz., and Nancy Rawlings of Las Vegas; a son, Brent Rawlings of Las Vegas; five stepchildren, Rocky Russell, Christy Pyhtila, Brandon Russell, Angel Lemmon and Polly Falk; and 28 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A viewing is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 3400 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, Nevada. Valentine came to BYH from Circleville H.S. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Valentine Savage Clark ~ Surrounded by her loving daughters, Valentine passed away on Saturday, January 29th, 2O11. She was born on Valentine's Day in Junction, Utah to C.A. and Emma Savage. She grew up the only sister with five brothers, one of whom survives her, Neal Savage. Valentine attended B.Y. High School where she graduated in 1939. She then enrolled at BYU where she met Elden D. Clark, Jr. They were married on January 25, 1942 and moved to Santa Maria, California where Elden attended the Army Air Corps Officer's Training program, and Valentine worked as an S2 agent and an executive secretary. After leaving the military service they made their home in Scottsdale, Arizona for 36 years where they raised three daughters and were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. Always active in responsibilities as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sister Clark served in Relief Society, Young Women's and Primary auxiliaries where her warmth and goodness touched countless individuals. Valentine was a great example to her family and friends and was loved and respected by all. Through the years many have looked to emulate her example of graciousness, compassion and elegance. Valentine was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her daughters, Brooke Carter (Carl), Shauna Kemsley (Blaine), Cherie Daniels (Michael), 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She attended Utah State University in Logan and worked for J.C. Penney, Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co., and Geneva Steel. Ruth married Wilbur Anthony (Tony) Sowards on May 3, 1947, in Santa Cruz, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on April 30, 1966. They were the parents of four children. Tony passed away in 1994. Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she served in various callings related to scouting and in many other ward and stake positions. She received the Silver Beaver Award, the Provo Peak Award, and many other honors for her years of dedicated service to the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She helped countless young men to gain their Citizenship merit badges. Ruth loved to golf and was a longtime member of the Riverside Country Club. She helped organize numerous tournaments and greatly enjoyed her involvement with the Riverside Ladies Golf Association and Riverside's junior golf program. An avid reader and writer, she was especially fond of poetry and penned several dozen poems throughout her life. Ruth was also a devoted sports fan, following the fortunes of the Cougars and the Jazz. She spent time helping and serving others. She was an excellent cook. Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to make others feel loved and appreciated. She was an unselfish, helpful, and caring person and was a friend to all. Ruth is survived by her four children: Diane Sowards (David) Merrill, Renton, Washington; Paul (Karen) Sowards, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mark (Lila) Sowards, Orem, Utah; and Jane Sowards (Martel) Jensen, Tucson, Arizona. She has 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also survived, but only for a few hours, by her sister, Marjorie Smith [BYH Class of 1932] Hyatt, of Boise, Idaho, who died on April 17, 2008. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Aldwyn Smith and Paul Hone Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Mojave Chapel, 3050 N. Mojave Lane, Provo. Class of 1939. Shipley Snow [male]. School Play. Boys' Athletic Club. ~ ~ ~ ~ Shipley was born on September 28, 1921 in St. George, Utah. His parents were Karl Nelson Snow and Wanda McGregor Snow. Shipley received a BS degree from BYU in 1946. His brother, Edward Donald Snow, returned home from WWII and received a BS degree at the same Commencement ceremony in 1946. Shipley Snow married Anne Louise Brockbank, daughter of Merrill Jex Brockbank and Ruby Hermoine Osmond Brockbank. They moved for a time to Stanstead, Canada. They had five children: Anne Patrice Snow, Christine Snow, Kathleen Snow, Scott McGregor Snow, Allyson Snow, and Michael Brockbank Snow. Shipley McGregor Snow died on March 14, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Anne Brockbank Snow married again, to Waldo Macey (widower), founder of Macey's Markets. Waldo Macey died in 2009 after 18 years of marriage with Anne Snow.

She was born in Aurora, Utah to Ezra Artemus Stevens and Maud McDonald Stevens. She married John Kenneth Jakeman in Coalville, Utah on February 26, 1947. Duella had five children: Glenn Jakeman (Yakima, Washington), Kenneth Jakeman (Murray, Utah), and three from a previous marriage, Gloria (Hanks) Galloway (Saratoga Springs, Utah), Larry Hanks (Ogden, Utah), and Gregory Hanks (Aloha, Oregon). She also has 32 grandchildren, 65 plus great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Her parents, two older sisters Reva and Dicie and an older brother Don preceded her in death. Duella Jakeman is interred at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, Utah.~ ~ ~ ~ HER MOTHER'S OBITUARY: Maud McDonald Stevens, 55, of 560 South Second West, Provo, Utah, wife of E. A. Stevens, Union Pacific railroad station engineer, died at the family home at 9:30 a. m. Thursday of heart trouble which had bothered her since February. She was born at Aurora, Utah, September 7, 1884, daughter of Norman J. and Rosella Curtis McDonald. She married Mr. Stevens Novemeber 13, 1901, and some years later they moved to Provo. She was an active worker in the Sixth Ward Relief Society. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother; four sons and daughters, Mrs. Reva S. Smoot, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Dixie Godfrey, Preston, Idaho; Duella Stevens, Provo, Utah; and Donald O. Stevens, Alameda, California; and the following brothers and sisters: N. C. McDonald and Angus McDonald, Salina, Utah; Lyle McDonald and Mrs. Grace Bass of Provo, Utah; Mrs. A. W. Anderson, Price, Utah; and Mrs. R. E. West, Halliday, Utah. Our beloved Beth returned home to her Heavenly Father on January 7, 2007. Beth was born June 21, 1921, and was raised on a farm outside of Soda Springs, Idaho. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo, Utah, in 1939. She earned her Bachelors degree in nursing in 1944. Beth married Ellis Roy Walker on April 18, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple; they were married 60 yrs. Together they raised four children; Dr. Timothy (Marsha) Walker; Elizabeth Jane Walker; Kate Walker (Jim) Jewkes; and Diana Walker (Charles) Neve. They have 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Beth is survived by two sisters and two brothers, and preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Gene Swenson. Beth was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a stake missionary, Primary, Young Women's, Relief Society, and Stake Relief Society President in Omaha, Nebraska and Kansas City, Missouri. Beth and Ellis served a mission in the Atlanta Georgia Temple and were temple workers in the Jordan River Temple for many years. Beth was an excellent nurse and served as head nurse in several hospitals. Beth was an accomplished woman in all areas of her life. She served as a hostess at the Lion House and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved painting, sewing, quilting, candy making, gardening, music, poetry, the scriptures and the beauty of nature. A loving woman of great faith and compassion, her righteous life has been an example to all that knew her. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her, and those who gave her so much love during her life. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 13, 2007, at River Ridge Ward, 10191 So. 1300 W. (adjacent to Jordan River Temple). Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
