University, Book 8, page 225. ~ ~ ~ ~ Maria Genevieve Hortin was born on March 9, 1899 in Oakley, Summit County, Utah. Her parents were John William Wilkinson Hortin, Sr. [W.W. Hortin] and Ella Smith Malin Hortin. Genevieve married Curtis Horton on June 29, 1921 in Salt Lake City. Curtis Walton was born on December 15, 1895 in Coalville, Utah. His parents were Charles Alonzo Walton and Louisa Ann Buchanan Walton. Curtis Walton died on August 15, 1960. Genevieve Hortin Walton died on December 22, 1980 in Nutrioso, Apache County, Arizona, but her residence was in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her interment, Oakley, Utah.

Three members of the Hortin family graduated from BYH. The eleven children of her parents, W.W. Hortin and Ella Hortin of Oakley, Utah, include: 1. William Eugene Hortin [BYH Class of 1914] born 1893, died 1960; 2. Joseph Carlisle (J. Carl) Hortin [BYH Class of 1915], born 1895, died 1978; 3. John DeForest (Forest) Hortin, born 1897, died 1943; 4. Maria Genevieve (Genevieve) Hortin [BYH Class of 1917, 1918], born 1899, died 1980; 5. Glen Malin (Glen) Hortin, born 1900, died ?; 6. Grace Ella Hortin Lemon, born 1902, died?; 7. Paul Levere (Paul) Hortin, born 1903, died 1974; 8. Alice Pauline (Alice) Hortin Pitt, born 1906, died 1985; 9. Son Hortin, born & died 1908; 10. Eva Hortin Woolstenhulme, born 1909, died 1999; and 11. Maurine Hortin Anderson, born 1912, died 1996.

Bessie married Mr. Lewis E. Lewis [Lewis Evelyn Lewis] on July 28, 1927. Bessie Houtz Lewis died on February 27, 1963 in Provo, Utah. Her interment, Springville City Cemetery, Utah.

Source 3: Annual Record, B.Y. University, Book 9, page 18. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Effie Jolley Pinegar, 99, died Tuesday, November 2, 1999. She was born March 18, 1900 to Bryant Heber and Annie Sproul Jolley in Washington, Utah. She was one of 12 children. She graduated with a Teacher's Certificate from Brigham Young Academy [actually Brigham Young High School] in 1918, and taught in Duchesne, Carbon and Alpine school districts. She married James Emery Pinegar, May 25, 1925. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away May 11, 1947. They were the parents of seven children; Glen (Shirley), Provo; James (Colleen ), Orem; Maxine Turley, Wanita Done, Salt Lake City; Ed (Patricia), Orem. Preceding her in death were two children, Wanda and Delbert. She is survived by her five children, 30 grandchildren (two deceased), 127 great grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren, a sister, Afton Harding (Fred) and a brother Andrew Jolley (Kate), both of Provo. She was a true disciple of Jesus Christ with her service to family, church and country. She served twice as Relief Society President, Relief Society Stake Board Member and President of the P.T.A. at 3 different schools. She authored many family histories including assisting with the publication of the Jolley Book and published a special Patriotic Book entitled "An American's Book of Remembrance". Many people have been recipients of her beautiful quilts and her delightful collections of verse at Christmastime. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 6, 1999 in Provo, Utah. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. [Deseret News, Friday, November 5, 1999]
