Jesse & Sharon Anderson

Class of 1966. Jesse Anderson. Band, Band Manager, Chorus, Science Club, Seminary Graduate. BYU Civil Engineering 1971. Water Rights Engineer. Civil Engineer - Highway Design. Former Bishop. Wife: Sharon. Two sons, two daughters. Jesse and Sharon attended the 50th Anniversary Reunion of the BYH Class of 1966 on September 2, 2016. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Jesse Brewster Anderson died in his home surrounded by loved ones on the 24th of July 2022. He was born on October 9, 1948 in Logan, Utah, the first born of Dorothy Dickson and Parley Garth Anderson. The oldest of five boys, young Jesse spent summers in Castle Dale hauling hay with Grandma and Grandpa Anderson, learning to fish, joining in on the deer hunt, and sharing family meals with cousins and extended family. Visits from their sophisticated and erudite Uncle Buds from the East Coast were an anticipated highlight for the Anderson boys. Jesse attended BY High in Provo from elementary through high school as a member of the Class of 1966. In his time in school, Jesse found and developed his admirable talents for woodworking, leatherwork, masonry, and other craftsmanship. Many fine examples of his workmanship are honored pieces in our homes, and have been built as custom work in the homes he lived in. During this time he also found that he had a brain for math, which led to a degree in civil engineering from BYU. Jesse found satisfaction in his work on large-scale engineering projects including being part of the design team for the reconstructed Thistle Dam, working on the Las Vegas Speedway project, and designing many highways and freeways in the western US. Jesse always drove the roads like he owned them, and maybe in some way he did just a little bit more than the rest of us. Finishing up an internship for college at the Utah State Department of Transportation, Jesse met Sharon Clark, a beautiful secretary in the office who was sweetly the only woman he ever dated. They shared their first date at the movie True Grit, which was often shown at their home over the following 51 years. They married as close as they could to Valentine’s Day on February 12, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. They honeymooned at Disneyland, where they began a decades-long tradition of sharing delight for their magical place with children and grandchildren. Jesse and Sharon made their first home together in Lehi where their four children were born. Subsequent moves took their family to Fresno, California and Henderson, Nevada, before Jesse and Sharon resettled in Northern Utah for retirement. Jesse was the consummate gentleman, taking care to keep Sharon’s gas tank full, opening every door, and sweetly complimenting her talents and grace. Jesse was a generous soul that found great purpose and satisfaction serving wholeheartedly in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He recalled especially tenderly his time serving as the bishop of the Valle Verde Ward in Henderson. He was a man who was easily touched by the Spirit, who wept openly, and developed an eloquence for sharing his testimony. In his final years of poor health, he was nourished by his faith through temple service and meditating on hymns sung by the Tabernacle Choir. Jesse’s commitment to faith and family is one of the great inheritances we receive as his children and loved ones. We are grateful for the kind life of our husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and give thanks that he is free from difficult disease and on to the next steps of his progression. We look forward with bright faith to being reunited with him again. Jesse is survived by his wife Sharon; son Jason (Natalie Rowley); daughter Jayne Ekins (Jacob); daughter Melissa Sykes (Glenn); son Brian; grandchildren McKenna, Jaedyn, Marielle, Ellen, James, Mike, Dylan, Clark, Garrett, Danny, Anne and Niels; brother Gavin Anderson (Jill); brother Cameron Anderson (Shirley); brother Wayne Anderson (Cindi); and brother Kelly Anderson (Gail), and many loved nieces and nephews. Jesse is preceded in death by his parents Parley and Dorothy, and two grandchildren, Samuel and Samantha. Friends and family may call at a viewing at 9 am on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Wing Mortuary (118 E Main St, Lehi, UT), followed by funeral services at 10 am. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery. Source.

A variety of pioneers, homesteaders, missionaries, miners, prospectors, lawmen, freighters, mule skinners, mountain men, explorers, cattle men and cowboys were Mormons and contributed to the area's history. Some of these historic Mormon events and sites, are the subjects of lectures by local historian John Bascom. Bascom has lived in Victorville for more than 40 years and was a youth member of the Mohahve Historical Society before it was officially named in 1963. He loved life, traveling in France, playing guitar and singing, watching movies and sports (especially the Seahawks and Mariners, complaining loudly when they lost), and discussing Westerns with his son, Matt, on their podcast (westernswithdad.com). His favorite times were hanging out with friends and family, laughing, playing dominoes (though he was certain he never won), playing at the Edmonds Petanque Club, and especially enjoying good food, good wine, and good company. He taught French and Spanish to a legion of students over a 30+ year career at North Seattle College. During summers he led tours to his beloved France, where he spoke the language like a native and shared his love of that beautiful country. He was 10 days from his 67th birthday and had been a resident of Pueblo since 1967. He left his childhood home of Provo, Utah, to accept a tennis scholarship with Pueblo Community College where he raised himself to second and first singles positions on that tennis team in the late 1960s. He graduated from that college with a B.A. degree in history. He successfully coached boys and girls high school tennis teams for many years with the public school system in Pueblo. During his many years in this community, John coached and nurtured a number of state and nationally ranked tennis players and was recognized by those who knew him as a tennis sage and one of the best teaching professionals in Colorado. He lived a quiet and unassuming life, caring for many stray animals and was always an advocate for those down on their luck. He was a voracious reader of science fiction and sports novels. His love of classic movies made him an “armchair film historian” along with his brother, Nick. However, his love of tennis trumped all of his other interests. He once told his best friend in high school, “If there is the slightest chance in the world that you might become the best person in the world at some one thing (tennis), then you have to go all out for it.” John is survived by his mother, Cleone; brother, Nick and his wife, Barbara; niece, Nicole and her husband, Mark; nephew, Sean all from or living in Hartsburg, Mo.; and his best friend, Eddie Francis, who was like another brother to John. Memorials may be made to the Pueblo Tennis Club through the funeral home. John William Boshard will be missed by all of those who loved this kind of mystic with a big heart and a good word for all.
